I do use organic fertilizer on all my roses, about three or four times per summer. And that's about it. I do try to keep them deadheaded. Keep in mind, that photo likely came from late spring when the roses are at peak. They don't bloom that profusely the rest of the year. I really want mine to flourish and they seem to be just so so, if you know what I mean.
Yes last year was a record breaking year for lack of rain .. I am so grateful we have a sprinkler system ... or I would have lost a lot of plants.
All of your tips are great ... but I have a terrible time trying to sit and enjoy the garden .. I always want to be puttering around doing something ! Note to self to work on that ! I don't know how you keep them looking so beautiful, and no, rain should not keep you from going out into the garden--some of the best times to work--unless there is lightening, of course. And finally, enjoying the garden, oh yes. Yes, the garden is always teaching us something, isn't it? But I confess I sometimes I don't pay attention, or I forget my lesson and have to relearn it another year. I'll need to use some of my winter coping mechanisms, which include buying fresh flowers, ordering seeds, and visiting the conservatory. The garden does bring so many rewards to our lives and is a place for reflection and solitude. I sit in my patio room every morning looking out on the garden with cup of tea in hand.
