Fall into Fall

Autumn is the most beloved of seasons, wouldn't you agree? The only problem is that fall often has to bear the burden of the winter that follows it. I've heard many people say "Well, I love fall, but I don't like how it ushers in the winter". That's not really fair is it? How about if we enjoy autumn on its own, without comparing it to the often despised season that comes after?

When the fall weather is pleasant and warm, and the trees have turned into a kaleidoscope of colors, I find myself driving off to my favorite parks to spend the afternoon. This one is a particular favorite, Chestnut Ridge. I can see the ridge off in the distance out my bedroom window, and will often joke that it is my mountain, even though it's just a small bump.

I wander around taking pictures of every little thing, but mostly I just sit and admire. It's time to breathe deeply, and start saying my goodbyes to the outdoor world for a few months.

Sometimes I have something important to think about or a problem to figure out, This is the perfect time for that. I find that my mind clears, my breathing slows, and solutions are easier to figure out. And so it was on this day.

Things looked  much brighter after my day at the park. I decided that I would indeed be able to tackle the problems that were looming over me. It would take time, and hard work, but I know I can do it. I'm tough like that.

So next time you need to figure out where to go next, grab one of those perfect fall days, and take it in. I'm sure you'll come up with your own solution in no time.

  1. Hello Robin girl what a pretty post ! And .. I agree with not blaming Autumn for "ushering in" winter .. it isn't her fault!
Love the reflections in the water from the trees ... I was totally absorbed by our big maple tree in the back garden .. it cast golden glows in the morning and especially afternoon ... the atmosphere was pure magic ...
I have finished planting all my bulbs finally .. yesterday was the big push to finally finish leaf extraction and bulb planting .. phew ! Hope all goes well with the recovery from the knee replacement girl ! take care !!

  2. Lovely. Not only beautiful photos but beautiful peaceful words. I am so happy to see your autumn. Ours has been nothing this year. The leaves turned yellowish and then dark brown. The leaves fell off the trees this past week. There will be no color for us.

    1. I often swear that I need to live in a tropical climate, but I'm not sure I could do without autumn, and its gorgeous colors.

  5. Robin, what a lovey sentiment. Yes, poor Fall gets the brunt of people's frustration with winter's gloom. Not fair indeed. I am thinking of you this day as you made decisions. Sometimes, an quiet reflective place is just the spot in which to think, ponder and dream. ~~Dee

  6. A fall walk sounds like the perfect time for reflection and problem solving. Your pictures are glorious. We have little left here for color. Just a few spots here and there. I will take a look tomorrow and see what I can find. You have inspired me!

  8. Your artful photos are gorgeous. I definitely agree that winter should not cast a dark cloud over the beauty of autumn. Your mountain shows why! I love all the wonderful colors of fall, and Chestnut Ridge is a beauty!

    1. This autumn was especially gorgeous, and I could hardly take it all in. Every time I stepped out, everything just seemed to glow! There is still a little color left, but not much. I sure hate to see it all go.

    1. How did we ever survive with those silly film cameras? It's so nice to know right away whether or not we got the shot.

  13. That looks like a great place for thinking. I go around and say my goodbyes to the garden too. Sometimes the anticipation of it dying is worse than the actuality. When it's gone, I move on but beforehand I always dread it.
p.s. I don't know why my double Brugmansia keeps blooming in the dark, cold garage. I do open the door and set it outside on nicer days (which we aren't having many of lately) so maybe that's enough to keep it going?? Hope you have a great holiday season too!!

    1. I was about to have knee replacement surgery, and was quite frightened. I knew it would entirely improve my life, but would be so much hard work and pain. So far, it's been tough, but improving daily!
