The Quiet Garden

Before I became a gardener, I thought there was only one season for it, summer. As time went  by, I learned that there can be interest in the garden year round. It was an important lesson to learn. You see, I never would have thought that November could hold anything to see in the garden.

It may not be as bright and colorful as the month of May, but it has a quieter beauty.

You have to depend on shapes, forms, and textures to keep the garden interesting when summer fades away.
 The colors are mostly subtle.
Only a few flowers remain, and you have to look hard to see them.

But the pansies and violets are still scoffing at the cold. You have to admire that in a flower, especially in November.

Maybe only gardeners can appreciate November. It's easy to love the summer garden, anyone can do it. But it takes effort to see the beauty in quiet spots like this.
If the summer garden is loud, then the November garden is quiet. And that's so much better than no garden at all.

  1. You still have some beauty holding on Robin. The Ajuga is so pretty and so are those pansies. You and your family have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving. I am so sorry about Black Friday and Holiday shopping season starting for you. LOL! I do not miss those days.

  3. Oh yes...each month of autumn has its own beauty. We had planted our previous garden to look as beautiful in autumn as in summer. Now comes a busy time as we have to get both the city garden and the one at Cranberry Cottage winter ready...

  6. Robin girl you would have laughed at me this morning out in my flashy housecoat trying to cover some plants with leaves and searching for bird seed .. yup! I am quite a sight first thing in the morning!
I will certainly give those Blue Jays directions to your house girl .. but don't blame me for the noise? LOL
Is that last picture Euphorbia ? .. all of them are beautiful but I don't have euphorbia in my garden at the moment so I might have to put that on my Spring wish list!

  7. Lucky you to have all that color (and even some blooms!) left in November Robin. I love the fall hosta foliage.
'All season gardening" is a good lesson to learn. I'm trying to add more and more form & evergreen to the garden. With our long winters, every little bit helps!
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving!
